Once the acidity reaches the steel reinforcement this will begin to rust, which will then expand resulting in stresses being set up within the concrete that will cause cracking and eventually spalling. Resin Injection/Crack Injection The concrete repair process involves the removal of all deteriorated and spalled concrete, normally using mechanical breakers, to the rear of the exposed reinforcement. The steelwork is cleaned and treated to prevent further corrosion. A hand placed repair mortar, with similar properties to the original concrete, is packed into the repair in layers with the final layer having a trowel finish similar to the existing.
